From the Soundboard is a show that usually focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, November 13, we will showcase the sounds of one of Brazil’s hottest DJs, Miller Cruz. Also will play excerpts of a vintage Jorge Ben Jor concert in honor of his upcoming rare NYC performance.
"Originally from Minas Gerais, in the heart of Brazil, Miller Cruz grew up playing percussion on the street corners of his hometown. Inspired by such diverse influences as Pink Floyd, The Doors, Mutantes, Novos Baianos,Jorge Ben Jor, Taj Mahal, and Bob Marley, he brings a uniquely Brazilian approach to house music. A true son of the Tropicalista movement that swept Brazil in the 60s and 70s, Miller reaches across cultures, eras and genres to create a sound that is both forward thinking in reach, but loyal to its historical roots. He says, “My goal has always been to create a fusion of the New Brazilian sounds with House, Drum n Bass, Deep, Soulful, Tech, Latin & Afro House, Latin Grooves, Classics, World Music and More. I go everywhere with the styles, that’s what makes me different and unique”. [Press Release]
