From the Soundboard is a show that focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, October 23, we will talk with tastemaker and social butterfly, DJ Pinkie Tuscadero. Pinkie will supply the music during the interview and we will talk about whatever will fills up two hours. It won’t be boring and WBAI is still fundraising so hopefully the listening audience give generously during our chat.

"Bronx Native, Pinkie Tuscadero’s love for music has been evident since a young child listening to her mother’s friend play 45′s. As a teenager, her passion and yearn to become a dj spawned after seeing a family friend play in his studio. When she’s not moving the crowd with her blend of mixes, Pinkie Tuscadero dons the hat of a Journalist as editor for her own blog, Memoirs of A Party Girl. " [Excerpt from Memoirs of a Party Girl]

From the Soundboard is a show that focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, July 10,we are going to direct our attention to the sounds of Cameroon’s dance music, Makossa by focusing on the artist who gave it worldwide attention, Manu Dibango

Dibango is Cameroon’s, and perhaps Africa’s, best-known jazz saxophonist. Starting in the 1950s, he became a globe-trotting musician, living and performing in France, Belgium, Jamaica, Zaire, and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as in Cameroon. In 1960, Dibango was one of the founding members of the Zairean band African Jazz, with whom he spent five years. World attention came to Dibango with the release in 1972 of Soul Makossa, a work that actually had precious little of the makossa sound in it, and scored later hits with Seventies and Ibida. Dibango's output has been prodigious and multi-faceted.”   [Leon Jackson - All Music Guide]

From the Soundboard is a show that focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artists and/or groups perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, June 13, in acknowledgement of Black Music and Pride Month we will focus on the person known as the “Queen of Disco,” Donna Summer.

“As the ‘Queen of Disco’ wasn’t mere hype — she was one of the very few disco performers to enjoy a measure of career longevity, and her consistent chart success was rivaled in the disco world only by the Bee Gees. Summer was certainly a talented vocalist, trained as a powerful gospel belter, but then again, so were many of her contemporaries. Of major importance in setting Summer apart were her songwriting abilities and her choice of talented collaborators in producers/songwriters Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, which resulted in a steady supply of high-quality (and, often, high-concept) material. But what was more, few vocalists could match the sultry, unfettered eroticism Summer brought to many of her best recordings, which seemed to embody the spirit of the disco era perfectly. The total package made Summer the ultimate disco diva, one of the few whose star power was even bigger than the music.” [Steve Huey - All Music Guide]
