The daughter of jazz and pop legend Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole forged a successful career in three phases. She began in the ’70s as a soul-rooted artist, had success in the ’80s with pop-oriented R&B material, and then followed in the footsteps of her father with traditional pop as her foundation from the ’90s through the early 2010s. #FromtheSoundboard is a show that usually focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, August 27 starting at 3 am, we will focus on one of the pioneers of Detroit styled Electric Blues.  Beloved by #Rock and #Blues lovers alike.  He is #JohnLeeHooker.

He was beloved worldwide as the king of the endless boogie, a genuine blues superstar whose droning, hypnotic one-chord grooves were at once both ultra-primitive and timeless. But John Lee Hooker recorded in a great many more styles than that over a career that stretched across more than half a century.  [John Dahl - All Music Guide] #PacificaRadio #WBAI #NYC #DetroitBlues #ElectricBlues #innovator #legend

#FromtheSoundboard is a show that usually focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, August 20 starting at 3 am, we will focus on #Comedy.  We will feature some concerts as a tribute to actor/comedian #RobinWilliams.

WARNING: Grown folk language will utter throughout the program. No kids in the listening area.

Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Robin Williams won five Grammys, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Emmys, and an Oscar, not to mention more than $3 billion in lifetime grosses — not bad for a stand-up comedian who became a household name as the star of Mork and Mindy, a Happy Days spinoff sitcom about a goofball alien. From the Soundboard is a show that usually focuses on concerts regardless of genre. Artist and/or group perfecting the art of “call and response” with its audience. On Wednesday, April 23, we are will going to focus on the Indo-Jazz-Fusion project called Miles from India.

"It was such a simple concept. Producer Bob Belden (who has directed the Miles Davis reissue series) was talking with Times Square label owner Yusuf Gandhi about Miles’ use of Indian instrumentation during The Complete On the Corner Sessions and wondered aloud what it would sound like if Indian musicians played Miles’ music. Gandhi replied Miles from India, and nearly a year later Belden delivered this brilliant set that not only features a number of India’s finest musicians but a veritable who’s who of Miles’ own sidemen. In perhaps the boldest move, Belden and the musicians looked well beyond Miles’ 1972-1975 sessions with Indian instruments for inspiration, performing tracks from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.” [Sean Westergaard - All Music Guide]
